Invention Report

Report Assigned: February 4th, 2021
Report Due: February 25th, 2021 at 8am

Step 1: Choose an Invention

You will select an invention that you think is one of the most significant inventions ever created. The invention should have been invented before 1960 and should have historical significance. If you need ideas for an invention, use our Benchmark book. Some examples include the lightbulb, the refrigerator, the printing press, the steam engine, the telegraph, or anything else you think is an important invention.
After you have selected your invention, Click HERE to submit it for approval to Ms. Micev. Do not work on your invention report until your invention has been approved! You should turn this step in before February 10th.

Step 2: Research the Invention

Use the internet, books, and the library to research your invention. Your research should include:
  • Who invented it?
  • What problem did it solve?
  • What was the process like to make it?
You must gather as much research and information about your invention as possible. You will submit a Google Doc answering the “who, what, where, when, why, and how” of your invention. This does not need to be polished, it’s just research.
You will upload your research into Google Classroom here. You should turn this step in before February 16th.

Step 3: Invention Google Slides

You will create a polished Google Slide presentation all about the history of your invention. At a minimum, your Google Slide report should answer these questions (each question should be its own slide)
  1. What does the invention do?
  2. What problem does the invention solve?
  3. When was it invented?
  4. Who invented it?
  5. What other inventions came due to this invention?
  6. Why is this invention important?
  • You can add more details than just the ones above.
  • Your slides should be neat, easy to read, and include photos and details.
  • Your slides must be your own work, do not copy and paste from the internet. (That’s called plagiarism and it’s cheating).
You will upload your slides into Google Classroom here. You should turn this step in before February 24th.

Step 4: Presentation

You will present your information about your invention to the class over Zoom. Your presentation should be about 1 minute long. Be prepared to explain your invention, who invented it, what makes it important, and answer questions about the invention. Presentations will be February 25th and 26th. You must be ready when you are called to present or you will not get credit for your presentation.

You will have lots of time every day to work on your project. You should be working on your project every day as part of your classwork. Do not wait until the last minute to work on this assignment, it will be a large part of your report card grade. If you want to get a “4” remember that you need to go above and beyond the minimum requirements. If you have any questions, please ask Ms. Micev for help during homework help or send a message on Clever or Class Dojo.
